What is a Radial Tire ?

24 Ağustos 2016

The tire is divided into two depending on its construction (cord placement angle).

The first is the Radial Tire, while the other is the Cross Construction tyre.

Radial tire; It is the carcass structure formed by the cord yarns that make up the skeleton of the tire pressing perpendicular to the ground during rotation or placing them at a right angle (90 degrees) to the area of the tire that sits on the rim (heel area).

The cord placement of diagonal tires is not vertical like Radial, but horizontal angle.

The radial tire size is indicated by the letter “R” in the software, while the diagonal tire is indicated by the “-” symbol.

110/80 R 19 ; The letter “R” indicates that it is a Radial Structured Tire.

110/80 – 19 ; The “-” symbol indicates that it is a Cross-Structured Tire.

How are radial tires different from other tires?

The main difference between the two structures is that although comfort is at the forefront of the Cross tire, its high speed performance and rolling resistance are lower than that of the Radial tire. The radial tire is a structure that is preferred especially in high performance tires, and it reduces the resistance between the tire and the road, as well as at high speed.

What are the advantages of radial technology to the tire?

Thanks to the radial structure, first of all, a more stable tire is obtained.

If we open this a little bit, thanks to the radial structure, it provides the opportunity to use the "0 Degree Steel Belt" for the tire. This belt prevents the growth of the tire due to centrifugal force at high speeds and ensures that the geometry of the tire remains the same at low speed and high speed.

What kind of advantages does it provide in motorcycle riding?

Thanks to the radial, the tread surface of the tire is fixed and prevents the user from feeling the negative effects of changing the tire geometry. Especially at high speeds, the lateral (right-left) vibration of the handlebar caused by the growth of the front tire is minimized.

In the rear tire, on the other hand, cornering comfort can be increased by reducing the tire deformation that occurs in the corners, thanks to the radial structure.

However, it should be noted that while the high speed comfort is increased in the radial tire, the low speed motorcycle suspension may disturb the user if it is not suitable. For this reason, tires should always be used in the structure recommended by the motorcycle manufacturer.

Why and under what conditions should radial tires be preferred?

The use of radial tires is a specification specified by the motorcycle manufacturer for the engine. Although it is determined by the manufacturer according to the maximum speed capacity of the motorcycle, we should also choose the tire according to the purpose of use.

For example, if we have an Enduro style engine and we are going to do Off-Road, it will be very difficult with a radial tire, since the tire will be constantly exposed to bumps and impacts, comfort will come to the forefront compared to speed. In such a case, the Cross tire is recommended.

What is a zero degree steel belt? Why is it an important technology?

“0 Degree Steel Belt”; It is produced by winding rubber coated steel cord on the radial carcass in the direction of rotation. It provides important advantages such as stability, durability and increasing speed capacity in straight driving and high speed use. In this way, the heat balance of the tire is ensured and the heat resistance of the tire is increased.

What are the features of Anlas' radial tires?

Together with ANLAS Capra R tire, it uses "0 Degree Steel Belt" in radial tire technology.

Moreover, Tournée products, which are produced not only for large motorcycles but also for maxi-scooters of 500 cc and above, are also produced with the "0 Degree Steel Belt" technology.

The reason for this is that the speed and load capacities of today's maxi-scooters have increased, and accordingly, the driving characteristics that the user expects from the maxi-scooter are also high.

In addition, the most important feature that we have adopted in our tires as ANLAS is that the tire can perform its duty even in difficult weather conditions, and wet ground performance is increased apart from dry ground.
